Why fiberglass / 03 properties

Why
fiberglass.

Three reasons most boats are still built from it.

Property / A

Molds to
any shape.

Hulls, hatches, consoles, and brackets come off a mold with the finish built in.

Property / B

Repairable.

Cracks, holes, and soft spots can be ground out and laid back up. A damaged part doesn't have to be scrapped.

Property / C

Directional
layups.

Fibers are placed where the loads are. Strength goes in one direction when that's all the part needs.

Process / 05 steps

Sketch to finished part.

  1. Step 1: Measure or design

We measure the old part or the space it fits, or draw it from your sketch.

  2. Step 2: Mold

A plug or the original part becomes a mold, faired so the part comes off clean.

  3. Step 3: Layup

Glass cloth and resin placed ply by ply, with fibers oriented to the loads.

  4. Step 4: Cure

Under vacuum until the resin is fully set and the laminate is dense.

  5. Step 5: Trim and finish

Cut to line, edges sealed, and finished. Ready to fit.
